Requirements
Do I need a reservation?
Yes. We have a capacity limit and schedule our staff according to the number of dogs and the types of care scheduled each day.
Making a reservation in advance helps ensure we have the appropriate space and staffing available to safely care for every dog.
Which vaccines are required to use services at Dog Day Afternoon’s facility?
We require dogs to be current on Rabies, DHPP, and Bordetella. We also accept protective titer results for Rabies and DHPP.
We do not currently require the Canine Influenza or Leptospirosis vaccines. Because every dog’s health, lifestyle, and risk factors are different, we recommend speaking with your veterinarian to determine whether these vaccines are appropriate for your dog.
What is the minimum age requirement for dogs to attend daycare or boarding?
Our Puppy Preschool program starts as early as 8 weeks old and is specifically designed for young puppies who aren't quite ready for the excitement of regular daycare.
For traditional daycare and boarding, we find that most puppies aren't developmentally ready to truly enjoy the daycare environment until around 5–6 months of age. Every puppy develops at their own pace, so we're happy to help determine when the time is right.
Puppy Preschool is a great way to bridge that gap, giving younger puppies a safe, age-appropriate introduction to socialization, new experiences, and the daycare environment while helping prepare them for future daycare. See our puppy preschool program here.
Do you care for dogs with medical issues?
Yes! We are able to care for many dogs with stable, well-managed medical conditions, provided they are feeling well enough to comfortably participate in their normal daily routine.
Our team can administer many common medications, including pills, ointments, eye or ear drops, supplements, and more. We may also be able to accommodate insulin-dependent dogs on a case-by-case basis. A $5 fee per injection applies.
For the safety and well-being of your dog and the other dogs in our care, we are unable to accommodate dogs with contagious illnesses, open wounds or stitches, end-stage illnesses, or significantly limited mobility. Dogs must be able to stand and walk on their own, go to the bathroom without assistance, and eat and drink normally.
If your dog has a medical condition and you're unsure whether boarding or daycare is appropriate, please contact us before making a reservation. We're happy to discuss their individual needs and determine whether we're able to provide the level of care they require.
Do you accept dogs who aren't spayed or neutered?
Yes! Unspayed and unneutered dogs are welcome. Depending on the individual dog, they may also be eligible for Group Play or Personalized Play on a case-by-case basis.
For safety, we never place intact dogs together in group play, and female dogs who are in heat must remain at home until their heat cycle has completely finished.
Because intact dogs require additional management, planning, and staffing to ensure safe play and appropriate separation, a higher daycare and boarding rate applies to unspayed and unneutered dogs.
For record keeping, we add the initials (NN) "not neutered" or (NS) "not spayed" after your pup's name. This helps us keep track of our intact dogs and ensure they don't play together.
Do you accept dog-reactive or aggressive dogs?
We can accommodate dogs who prefer their own space or are not interested in interacting with other dogs, provided they can safely be cared for in our facility.
However, we are not equipped to safely accommodate dogs who display aggression toward other dogs or people. Dogs staying with us must, at minimum, be able to remain neutral around other dogs when appropriately separated and managed.
If you're unsure whether your dog would be a good fit, please talk with our team before making a reservation.
Daycare & Boarding Basics
Do you offer all-day group play?
The short answer is no, we don't have all-day play at Dog Day Afternoon. More play isn't always better!
With 20+ years in the dog care industry and an IAABC-certified trainer leading our facility, we’ve seen firsthand how important adequate rest is for dogs. Spending 8–10 hours continuously surrounded by other dogs can lead to overtiredness, overstimulation, and less tolerance with their friends, even for very social dogs.
Our schedule intentionally balances active play with quiet rest and recovery time, giving dogs a chance to recharge and practice the important skill of simply settling and relaxing.
Our goal isn’t to send your dog home exhausted, it’s to send them home happy, fulfilled, and ready to come back!
How much playtime will my dog get?
Our Group Play dogs enjoy playtime from 7:50 AM–10:20 AM and again from 1:10 PM–2:30 PM.
Dogs in our Personalized Care and Private Care programs receive a 30-minute play session, plus potty breaks approximately every 3–4 hours throughout the day.
We balance activity with plenty of downtime so dogs have an opportunity to rest, recharge, and enjoy their stay without becoming overtired or overstimulated.
Do you have live webcams?
We do not offer public live webcams.
For the privacy and safety of our staff and the dogs in our care, we don't livestream our facility. However, our facility is equipped with internal security cameras that record 24/7.
What is your staff-to-dog ratio?
We intentionally keep our playgroups smaller so our team can actively supervise and interact with the dogs in our care.
- Group Play: Maximum of 14 dogs per staff member, with an average of approximately 11:1
- Personalized Play: Maximum of 4 dogs per staff member
- Private Care: 1:1 individual attention
What happens if my pet is sick or injured during a visit?
Your dog’s health and safety are always our priority. If we believe your dog is experiencing a medical emergency, we will contact you or your emergency contact immediately, and a senior member of our team will transport your dog to the nearest appropriate emergency veterinary hospital. We typically use Veterinary Emergency Clinic (VEC) in Casselberry or Waterford Lakes, depending on location and availability.
For non-emergency illnesses or injuries, we will contact you promptly to discuss what we’re seeing and the next steps. Whenever possible, we will work with your dog’s regular veterinarian and can transport them there for care if needed.
Please make sure your dog’s current veterinarian and emergency contact information are always up to date in your account. Same-day appointments aren't always available with primary veterinarians, so if your veterinarian recommends urgent or emergency care instead, we may need to take your dog to an emergency hospital.
What happens if there is severe weather or a hurricane?
We have a Hurricane Ride-Out Plan in place to make sure the dogs in our care remain safe during severe weather.
If conditions become unsafe for travel or local roads are closed, our designated Hurricane Ride-Out Crew will remain at the facility with the dogs until it is safe to travel again. When outdoor potty breaks aren't safe, we use potty pads and indoor turf to give dogs a safe place to relieve themselves.
If a hurricane is expected to directly impact our area and an evacuation order is issued, all dogs must be picked up by their owner or a designated local emergency contact before the evacuation takes effect. For everyone's safety, our staff cannot remain at the facility under an evacuation order. We require that you have a local emergency contact who is able to pick up your dog if you're traveling during hurricane season.
When our Hurricane Ride-Out Crew is activated, an additional $15 per dog, per day is added to help cover the additional staffing required to have team members remain on-site throughout the severe weather event.
What to Bring
Can I bring bedding from home?
There’s no need! We provide comfortable Kuranda beds and cozy blankets for our boarding guests. Bedding from home can sometimes become soiled or damaged during a stay, so we recommend leaving favorite beds and blankets safely at home.
Can I bring toys?
For boarding dogs- yes! You’re welcome to bring 1–2 durable toys for your dog to enjoy during their stay. If your dog tends to destroy or eat pieces of their toys, please leave toys at home for their safety.
For daycare dogs- no. Please keep toys at home!
Do I need to bring food or water bowls?
Nope! We have everything your dog needs, including standard bowls, slow feeders, puzzle feeders, raised feeders, and more. Just let us know about any special feeding needs or preferences your dog has.
Can I bring a large container of food for you to scoop from?
Please portion your dog’s dry food into individual Ziploc bags or small containers — one portion per meal, per dog.
Pre-portioned meals help us make sure every dog receives exactly the right amount of food at every meal and make feeding time safer and more efficient for our team.
Can I bring medications or supplements?
Absolutely. Please bring medications and supplements in their original labeled containers. The container should clearly identify your dog and the medication or supplement being given.
Please provide us with complete instructions for dosage and administration at check-in.
Our Team & Facility
How experienced is your team?
We’re proud to have a team that sticks around! While employee turnover can be high in the pet care industry, many of our team members have made Dog Day Afternoon their long-term home.
Our current team includes staff members who have been with us for 1+, 2+, 5+, 7+, and even 10+ years, with six team members having 5 or more years of experience right here at our facility.
That longevity matters. It means experienced staff, consistent care, and familiar faces who get to know our dogs—their personalities, routines, preferences, and all their little quirks. When you leave your dog with us, there’s a good chance the person caring for them has known them for years.
Is someone at the facility overnight?
Yes! Our facility is staffed overnight. Our overnight team cleans the facility and checks on our boarding guests periodically throughout the night. Midnight potty breaks are available for dogs that need them.
Is your facility climate controlled?
Yes! Our facility is climate controlled with both air conditioning and heat to keep our guests comfortable throughout the year. We have indoor and outdoor play yards, so we are able to have inside play any time it's too hot or cold to safely be outside.
We take heat safety very seriously and have specific temperature and outdoor time guidelines that our team follows to help prevent heat-related illness.
We’re especially mindful of brachycephalic (short-nosed) breeds, such as French Bulldogs, Pugs, Bulldogs, Shih Tzus, and others, who can be more sensitive to warm temperatures. Our staff closely monitors the weather and the dogs in our care, adjusting outdoor playtime as needed to keep everyone safe and comfortable.
Do you use crates at your facility?
Our boarding accommodations are crate-free unless you specifically request a crate for your dog's nap or bedtime routine.
If your dog is comfortable sleeping in a crate at home and you'd like us to maintain that routine, just let us know.
Can I come and tour the facility?
For the safety and comfort of the dogs in our care, as well as our staff, we do not offer tours through the dog-care areas of our facility. Having unfamiliar visitors walking through can be disruptive and stressful for the dogs, and we want to keep their environment as calm and predictable as possible.
You’re always welcome to stop by our lobby, meet our team, and ask questions! We’re also happy to show you our security camera views, which provide a great look throughout the facility and give you a behind-the-scenes peek at where your dog will be spending their time.
Hours & Pricing
Can I drop off or pick up outside of your regular hours?
Sometimes! Between 6:00 AM and 8:00 PM, we may be able to arrange an after-hours drop-off or pick-up depending on staffing availability.
After-hours appointments must be arranged with us in advance, as a receptionist must be available to assist you. A $15 after-hours fee applies.
Do you offer discounts for long boarding stays?
We do not offer long-stay discounts.
Longer stays actually require more care rather than less. Dogs can begin to miss home during extended stays and often benefit from additional attention, reassurance, enrichment, and TLC from our team as their stay continues.
Our rates allow us to provide that same high level of care throughout your dog's entire stay.
Do you offer a military or first responder discount?
Yes! We are happy to offer a 10% discount for military members and first responders.
Do you offer evening drop off for boarding?
To help your pup get settled in and enjoy a full day of play, enrichment, and care, all boarding drop-offs take place during our morning drop-off hours:
Monday–Friday: 6:00 AM–10:00 AM
Saturday & Sunday: 8:00 AM–10:00 AM
We recommend arriving by 9:30 AM whenever possible so your pup has plenty of time to settle in and enjoy their day. Please note that evening boarding drop-off is no longer available.
